Risk Takers

I have always admired risk takers:

  • The Dukes of Hazard
  • Scooby and the gang
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Bilbo, Frodo and Co.
  • Hemingway
  • My fourth grade teacher that taught me to love reading
  • My sixth grade teacher that taught me to draw, paint and love art
  • Orwell
  • U2
  • Wilco
  • Steve Jobs
  • Sam Harris
  • Dan Pink
  • Glen Hansard
  • The Dahlia Lama
  • Ben and Jerry
  • Tony Hsieh
  • My buddy Kerry who challenged me to skydive and river run for the first time
  • Margie Clayman
  • Suzanne Vara
  • Chris – the one who can see past the surface to what is important
  • Cassie – who took a big risk with me
  • My six month old baby girl who seems poised to outdo them all

Taking risks has been central to my own personal successes:

  • Daring to go to college
  • Pursuing an atypical career
  • Following a childhood dream to go to graduate school
  • Climbing, river running and skydiving
  • Learning to shoot a gun
  • Traveling to Europe
  • Waiting to have children
  • Fighting for what is right

I recently sat through five amazing agency pitches and presentations. Each agency worked very hard and did everything to show who they are and what they can do. But the only one that really impressed me was the one that took a risk.

I love risk takers.

What?  I am kinda offended that the Dunham’s were not included on this list.  I mean, for hells sake, we moved to the west side!!!  If moving to the west side is not a risk, then I don’t know what is…….

Ha, ha! You hardly live on the west side. I grew up in the real west side. Your side of town is pretty much the east side transplanted to the west. Not all that risky if you ask me, but when I write a post about whiners, I’ll make sure you get top billing. :P
